Campaign and Story
In Forza Horizon 6 you arrive in Japan as a tourist with no fame, travel with friends Mei and Jordy, qualify for the Horizon Festival and climb seven Wristbands to become a Horizon Legend. A second path, Discover Japan, runs alongside it through the Collection Journal.
In Forza Horizon 6 you arrive in Japan as a tourist with "no fame carried over," as Playground puts it, traveling with two friends: Mei, an experienced Japanese car builder, and Jordy, a motorsports enthusiast. A short prologue of five drives ends at the Horizon Festival; then you qualify, win your first Wristband at the Horizon Invitational, and climb seven Wristbands to become a Horizon Legend. A second path, Discover Japan, runs beside it through the Collection Journal and its seven Stamps (Collection Journal and Discover Japan), and Horizon Play levels are the third. Playground calls these the three pathways of progression.

What is the story of Forza Horizon 6?
Earlier games cast you as a star: in Forza Horizon 4 you arrived in Britain as a Superstar, and in Forza Horizon 5 you were a champion in Mexico. In Forza Horizon 6, Playground writes, "None of that past fame is carried with you." Design Director Torben Ellert told Xbox Wire that "you're only attending as a fan, with a dream to take part in it" (Jan 22, 2026, before release). Mei and Jordy guide you through the opening, and Mei's family land later becomes The Estate. Characters from earlier Horizon games make driving cameos, PC Gamer's review notes (May 14, 2026). Most of the story told in scenes sits in Horizon Stories, short chapters off the main path.
The prologue drives
The First Drive guide (May 15, 2026) lists the opening in order:
- A 2024 Nissan GT-R Nismo through the fields of Hokubu, past cranes and a bullet train.
- A 2021 RJ Anderson #37 Polaris RZR Pro 4 Truck in a race on snow.
- A 1995 Porsche 911 GT2 chasing a Mazda RX-7 Type R on the mountain touge roads, with a 2023 BMW M2 and a 2020 Toyota GR Supra.
- A ramp jump in Nangan over a rocket launch at Irokawa Space Center.
- The 2025 GR GT Prototype, a cover car, in a Legend Convoy from Shimanoyama to Ohtani and into the Horizon Festival at the center of the map.
Before release Xbox Wire described the first ten minutes as the GR GT Prototype, off-roading in The Alps and a race against the Shinkansen. Finishing the opening act gives the achievement "Welcome To Japan" (10 Gamerscore). You then create your character, which can be edited later, and set assists, which can be changed at any time (Beginner's Guide).
Starter cars and the first race
Outside the Festival, Mei hands you the Collection Journal and you pick a starter car from a 1989 Nissan Silvia K's, a 1994 Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205 and a 1970 GMC Jimmy. All three go into your garage, so the choice is only which you drive first. You follow Mei into Tokyo City, passing the Raku-Raku food delivery Job and Tokyo Tower, and race the Horizon Event route in a borrowed 1998 Nissan Silvia K's Aero. That race completes the multiplayer unlock: Spec Racing, The Eliminator, Touge Showdown, Hide & Seek and the other Horizon Play modes (Multiplayer).
Owners of earlier Forza games get a loyalty car after the Tokyo City race with Mei, such as the 2021 Mercedes-AMG ONE for Forza Horizon 5; see Free Cars and Loyalty Rewards.
The six starting events
Mei enters you in the Horizon Qualifiers. On the World Map six events open, playable in any order, and each fills the Horizon Festival Points meter:
| Event | Type |
|---|---|
| River Split | Speed Trap (PR Stunt) |
| Airfield Trail | Trail Race |
| Shirakawa Circuit | Circuit Race |
| Highway View | Speed Zone (PR Stunt) |
| Wind Farm Cross Country | Cross Country Race |
| Hokubu Time Attack | Time Attack |

Qualifiers and the Horizon Invitational
Completing the Qualifiers grants entry to the Horizon Invitational, raced in a 2020 BMW M2 Competition. Winning it earns the Yellow Wristband and three cars: a 2022 Toyota GR86, a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GSR TM Edition and a 2024 Ram 1500 TRX. The Festival Playlist opens then, with events that rotate weekly (Updates and Series). Until this point only C class cars may enter Festival events, and Wheelspins wait for it too.
From Yellow Wristband to Horizon Legend
After joining, the campaign is the six remaining Wristbands. Festival races are curated Road, Dirt and Cross Country events with set car themes, and each band is won at a Showcase or a Horizon Rush (Showcases and Horizon Rush). Hypercars are kept out until the Purple Wristband. A "golden path" points the way but is optional; Ellert told Xbox Wire "Ultimately, freedom is a core design pillar for us" (Apr 8, 2026, before release). The Gold Wristband makes you a Horizon Legend and opens Legend Island, whose Colossus is the longest Goliath race yet. Reviewers likened the structure to the first Forza Horizon and noted the sealed-off endgame area (IGN, Eurogamer, May 14, 2026).
Discover Japan alongside
Exploring has its own ladder. Mascots, Street Races, Touge Battles, Car Meets, landmarks, murals and Mei's day tours fill Discover Japan, which awards seven Stamps from Yellow to Gold. The first Stamp leads to the Yashiki House and The Estate, and later Stamps unlock Player Houses and Barn Finds rumors. Photo clues lead to Treasure Cars, the first after the first Wristband. See Collection Journal and Discover Japan.
How long is Forza Horizon 6?
No HowLongToBeat figure was read for this page as of Nov 3, 2026 (the site refused the fetch), so this page gives no hours. What is known: the first Wristband comes during the first few hours, and the achievement list asks for 57 Festival race wins, 200 Mascots and 81 Stars from Stories, which takes far longer (Achievements).
