Drivatars and Difficulty
Forza Horizon 6's AI racers are Drivatars, set by a difficulty level that runs from Novice up through levels such as Above Average and Highly Skilled. At launch they were often too fast at high difficulty; Playground rebalanced them on Jun 15, 2026 and cut AI collisions on Jul 13, 2026. Difficulty and assists can be changed at any time.
Forza Horizon 6's opponents are Drivatars, AI racers that the game sets by a difficulty level you choose, and in the first weeks they were sometimes "too fast to compete with, especially at higher difficulty levels", as Playground admitted on May 22, 2026. The Series 2 update on Jun 15, 2026 rebalanced Drivatar difficulty and fixed their race starts, and Series 3 on Jul 13 cut their collisions on corner entry. Difficulty, assists and accessibility settings can all be changed at any time, so if the AI feels wrong, turn it down for that race and back up after. Rivals and its leaderboards are covered at the end.

What are Drivatars?
Drivatars are the series' AI racers. In Forza Horizon 6 they fill Festival races (the Race Customizer allows up to 11), and before launch Xbox Wire described challenging "a passing player's Drivatar to a quick battle" while free roaming (Apr 8, 2026, a pre-release build). Touge Battles pit you against a single opponent (Street Races and Touge Battles).
Difficulty levels
The game offers a ladder of Drivatar difficulty levels. Eurogamer's review names Novice, Above Average and Highly Skilled among them and noted that the game prompts you to change difficulty by race type (May 14, 2026, on review code). Playground has not published the full list, or any Credits bonus for higher levels, in the posts read for this page, as of Nov 3, 2026, so this page does not list them; the menu shows both.
Why it matters for progress: a race win adds a bonus toward your next Wristband, so Insider Gaming advises lowering the Drivatar difficulty to win when you are chasing Wristbands (May 14, 2026). See Wristbands.
The launch complaint and the fixes
| Date | What Playground did |
|---|---|
| May 22, 2026 | Named "Drivatar AI Balance" its first priority: AI "too fast" at high difficulty |
| Jun 15, 2026 | Series 2: Drivatar difficulty balancing, race-start fix |
| Jul 13, 2026 | Series 3: fewer AI collisions on corner entries |
| Nov 2, 2026 | Series 7: solo Seasonal Championships use your chosen difficulty; co-op ones harder |
Sources: May 22 post; Series 2 release notes; Series 3 post; Series 7 patch notes.
The Nov 2, 2026 change matters for the Festival Playlist: solo Seasonal Championships now follow the player's own difficulty setting. Co-op Seasonal Championships were made harder in the same update. The full list of fixes is on Known Issues and Fixes.
Assists and other settings
Every setting, assist and accessibility option can be changed at any time, not only at the start. Options that change how hard a race feels include:
- Rewind, which takes you back a few seconds after a mistake; the Race Customizer can switch it off for an event (campaign post).
- Offline Game Speed, a slider from 0 to 100 that slows the game when you play offline (Eurogamer).
- Tourist Drivatar and a skip option for Horizon Stories challenges, both listed on Playground's accessibility support page.
- AutoDrive, which drives to a waypoint for you; see Accessibility and AutoDrive.
The Series 3 Hotfix 1 on Jul 20, 2026 restored clutch kicking with Manual with Clutch for drivers who play without assists.
Rivals
Rivals has its own leaderboards, separate from Horizon Play's; Playground's notes also mention a "Monthly Rivals" mode reached through Test Drive (a black-screen bug there was fixed on Jul 13, 2026). The same day, Series 3 reset all Rivals leaderboards because of glitched times and times set on Drag Tires before the Jun 15 physics changes; Collection Journal items from clean times were kept. On Nov 2, 2026, Series 7 retuned the 2019 Ginetta G40 Junior, whose overperformance Playground said hurt Horizon Play and Rivals.
Frequently asked questions
Why are the Drivatars so fast in Forza Horizon 6? At launch Forza Horizon 6's Drivatars were sometimes too fast at high difficulty, Playground said on May 22, 2026; the Series 2 update on Jun 15, 2026 rebalanced them. Lower the difficulty for a race if it still feels unfair.
Can you change difficulty in Forza Horizon 6? Yes. Forza Horizon 6 lets you change Drivatar difficulty, assists and accessibility settings at any time.
What difficulty should I play Forza Horizon 6 on? Pick the level where you can win most races: in Forza Horizon 6 a win adds a bonus toward your next Wristband, so Insider Gaming advises lowering the difficulty when you are chasing Wristbands.
What are Rivals in Forza Horizon 6? Rivals is Forza Horizon 6's leaderboard mode for timed runs; Playground reset all Rivals leaderboards on Jul 13, 2026 over glitched times.
Do Seasonal Championships use my difficulty in Forza Horizon 6? Since the Series 7 update on Nov 2, 2026, Forza Horizon 6's solo Seasonal Championships use your chosen difficulty; co-op ones were made harder.
