Car Classes and Performance Index

Forza Horizon 6 rates every car with a Performance Index (PI) from 100 to 998 and groups them into seven classes, D, C, B, A, S1, S2 and R, the R class new for track cars. No X class appears on Playground's car list as of Nov 3, 2026.

2:47 Forza Horizon 6 groups its cars into seven performance classes, D, C, B, A, S1, S2 and R, by their Performance Index (PI), a single rating of a car's speed, handling and braking that runs from 100 to 998 on Playground Games' car list as of Nov 3, 2026. The R class is new: Playground "specifically introduced" it for track-focused cars when it overhauled the roster to balance it across classes. No X class appears on the list, so R looks like the top class, though Playground has not said so in those words. Upgrades raise a car's PI and can move it into a higher class; events limit which classes may enter. GameSpot's clip (May 11, 2026) names the GR GT Prototype as an R class example, but the car list rates it S1 771 stock.

What is the R class?

R is the new class for "track-focused cars": hypercars such as the 2021 Rimac Nevera and 2023 Aston Martin Valkyrie, race cars such as the 1991 Mazda #55 Mazda 787B, extreme track builds such as the Time Attack Car Pack's WTAC cars, and Forza Editions. Thirty-two cars are R stock, from the 2019 Zenvo TSR-S at R 906 to four cars at R 998. Playground suggests R class cars for the Colossus, the longest Goliath, a race that loops the whole map on the freeway on Legend Island.

Is there an X class in Forza Horizon 6?

Not on Playground's published list. Earlier Horizon games put their most extreme cars in an X class above S2; in Forza Horizon 6 the list's top cars are R 998 and no car is rated X, as of Nov 3, 2026. Playground's posts introduce R as new and do not mention X. Whether an upgraded car can climb past R 998 into another class has not been published by Playground.

How classes limit what you can drive

Until the Yellow Wristband, only C class cars can be used at Festival events; each later Wristband raises the class cap.
Hypercars are kept out of Festival races until at least the Purple Wristband.
Street Races at night have no class restrictions.
Festival Playlist events set their own class and car-type limits; since Series 7 a Garage and Autoshow filter shows the eligible cars.

How PI changes with upgrades

0:43 Each upgrade part changes a car's PI, so tuning is a trade between performance and staying inside a class limit; see Upgrades and Tuning. Playground's patches show how PI is used: on Jun 15, 2026 it made Drag Tires worse for cornering but kept their PI cost, so an A 700 tune on Drag Tires kept its PI while losing grip; and on Nov 2, 2026 it cut the 2019 Ginetta G40 Junior, which had performed "significantly better than cars within the same PI Class across several different PI Classes". The Aug 10, 2026 update fixed a wrong power-to-weight ratio calculation.
