Upgrades and Tuning
Forza Horizon 6 lets players upgrade parts, swap engines and tune any car they own, and share or download tunes; new this time are Forza Aero set per car and motorcycle engine swaps for kei cars. Drag Tires were reworked on Jun 15, 2026, and Series 6 and 7 added many engine swaps.
Forza Horizon 6 lets players upgrade, swap engines in and tune the cars they own, then share those tunes or download other players' ones. What Playground Games changed for this game is specific: Forza Aero is now set up per car instead of one front and rear aero for every car, kei cars can take motorcycle engine swaps, and most tires have new tread patterns. Since launch, the Series 2 update (Jun 15, 2026) made Drag Tires a poor choice outside drag racing, and the Series 6 (Oct 5, 2026) and Series 7 (Nov 2, 2026) updates added many engine swaps. Playground has not published a tuning guide of its own, and no reliable outlet had published dated, measured tunes as of Nov 3, 2026. The clip is HokiHoshi's May 16, 2026 refresher, before the Jun 15 Drag Tires change.

Upgrades and PI
Every upgrade changes a car's Performance Index, and with it the class the car races in, so an upgrade is a choice between more performance and staying under an event's class limit (see Car Classes and Performance Index). Playground has not published a list of upgrade categories or parts for Forza Horizon 6. Upgrades also change how a car looks: Forza Aero bumpers and rear wings can be painted part by part, and selected new-to-Horizon cars have body kits (see Customization and Liveries).
Forza Aero
In earlier Horizon games one Forza Aero front and rear kit fitted every car that took it. In Forza Horizon 6 Forza Aero is set up separately for each car, with its own front and rear parts, and the wing's material and supports and the bumper's tow hook can be painted.
Tires and the Drag Tires change
Most tires, all but off-road ones, have new tread patterns and details, and tires now wear visibly, as a cosmetic effect. The big tuning change since launch came on Jun 15, 2026: Drag Tires were made "no longer the optimal tire choice outside of drag racing". Their PI cost stayed the same, so a car already tuned to A 700 on Drag Tires kept its rating but with "significantly reduced cornering performance". Any tune downloaded from before Jun 15, 2026 that runs Drag Tires for road racing should be re-tuned.
Engine swaps
Engine swaps let a car take a different engine. Kei cars can take motorcycle engine swaps. Playground keeps adding swaps: In the clip HokiHoshi (May 16, 2026) finds swaps still powerful but more situational, since heavier engines now cost handling.
- Series 6, Oct 5, 2026: "many engine swaps", among them a 5.2L V10 for the 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400 and a Racing V12 for the 2020 Lamborghini Essenza SCV12.
- Series 7, Nov 2, 2026: a 5.2L V10 for the 2012, 2017, 2020 and 2024 Nissan GT-R models, three new swaps for the 2025 GR GT Prototype (3.5L V6-PDSC, 3.7L V6, 2.4L F4) and a 1.6L I4 - VVT swap for the 2016 Abarth 695 Biposto.
The full swap lists are in each update's patch notes, linked from Updates and Series.
Sharing and downloading tunes
Players can search for and download liveries and tunes other players have made, and at Car Meets they can download tunes shared by the drivers there. Shared content crosses platforms: on PS5 from Jan 26, 2027, all user-generated content is shared with Xbox and PC players. The Jul 13, 2026 update closed a PR Stunt tune exploit, and the Nov 2, 2026 update reset every PR Stunt leaderboard after further exploit fixes (patch notes).
Balance changes that affect tunes
- Jun 15, 2026: Drag Tires, above.
- Aug 10, 2026: an incorrect power-to-weight ratio (PWR) calculation was fixed.
- Nov 2, 2026: the 2019 Ginetta G40 Junior's performance was cut because it "perform[ed] significantly better than cars within the same PI Class across several different PI Classes".
