Multiplayer
Forza Horizon 6 is online by default in a Shared World, with Convoys for groups, the whole campaign playable in co-op, and Horizon Play modes including The Eliminator, Hide & Seek, Touge Showdown, Spec Racing, Horizon Racing and Horizon Drift. Cross-play and cross-save cover Xbox, PC and, from Jan 26, 2027, PS5.
Forza Horizon 6's multiplayer has three layers: the Shared World, where other players drive the same Japan and meet up at Car Meets, Drag Meets and Time Attack Circuits; Convoys, which let friends play the campaign together (the campaign is "playable solo and in co-op", Playground said); and Horizon Play, its menu of competitive modes, The Eliminator, Hide & Seek, Touge Showdown, Spec Racing, Horizon Racing, Horizon Drift, Custom Racing and Custom Drifting. Weekly, Horizon Legends can also play The Trial, a 6 against 6 co-op event on the Festival Playlist. Cross-play and cross-save run across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and, from its Jan 26, 2027 release, PS5 (PS5 Release Date). On Xbox consoles online play needs a Game Pass subscription that includes it; on PS5 it will need PlayStation Plus.

The Shared World
Multiplayer opens almost at once: it unlocks after the first race, the one in a borrowed 1998 Nissan Silvia K's Aero. From then on other players drive around you, and the meetups are part of the map: Time Attack Circuits, Car Meets and Drag Meets all sit in the Shared Open World, joined by driving into them. Drift Attack, added on Sep 7, 2026, works the same way. Each has its own page: Car Meets and Drag Meets, Time Attack Circuits, Drift Attack.
Convoys and co-op
A Convoy is a group of players driving together, and Playground calls it "the best way to play Forza Horizon 6 together". Start or join one at a Car Meet. When the Convoy leader sets up an event, the rest of the Convoy plays it the same way, so friends can race the campaign's Festival events in co-op. Festival Playlist Seasonal Championships come in solo and co-op versions; since the Series 7 update on Nov 2, 2026, solo ones follow your chosen difficulty and co-op ones are harder.
Playing together pays. LINK Skills reward matching a skill with another player at the same time, such as a tandem drift, and Insider Gaming measured 10 Wristband points for each new LINK Skill (May 14, 2026). Skills are on Skills, XP and Wheelspins.

| Custom Drifting | Choose the class and drive type |

Spec Racing is new: in Playground's words "the only differentiator is pure skill". The Series 6 update on Oct 5, 2026 set ten Spec Racing cars, from the 2008 Mazda Furai to the 1987 Ferrari F40, and three of them are paid DLC cars that everyone may drive there. Hide & Seek also runs as a Seasonal activity on the Festival Playlist (Series 7 blog).
Horizon Play levels and badges
Horizon Play has its own levels. You earn XP by playing, a Badge every 10 ranks, up to Level 100, and each level up to 25 also adds Horizon Festival Points toward your next Wristband. Each mode keeps a Series Standing Leaderboard that resets with every Festival Playlist series. The Jun 15, 2026 update cut the XP needed for Levels 26 to 100, and Series 6 added up to 200 more levels with 20 more badges. "Ready to Rumble" (10 levels) and "Maxed Out" (100) are the achievements.
The Trial
The Trial is a weekly co-op event on the Festival Playlist: 6 against 6, best of three, for Gold Wristband holders only. Playground left it out of Series 1 "to avoid placing any pressure on players to rush" to the Gold Wristband, and it returned with Series 2 on Jun 18, 2026. The Gold Wristband is the last of seven; see Legend Island.
Is there a Ranked mode or Horizon Open?
Not by those names. Playground's list of Horizon Play modes, published on May 12, 2026, has no Ranked mode and no Horizon Open, and no later post read for this page adds one, as of Nov 3, 2026. The nearest things are the Series Standing Leaderboards in each Horizon Play mode and the Rivals leaderboards (Drivatars and Difficulty).
Online requirements by platform
| Platform | Online multiplayer needs |
|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | A Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer |
| PS5 (Jan 26, 2027) | PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra or Premium, and a linked Microsoft account |
Sources: Xbox Wire, Jan 22, 2026; PlayStation 5 FAQ, Oct 8, 2026.
Playground's posts read for this page name no subscription for online play on PC. On PS5 the Microsoft account link is permanent for the title, and solo and offline play need no PlayStation Plus. Since Series 7, the Playlist Points for reward cars are lower, which Playground said helps players "without access to the game's online content".
Cross-play and cross-save
Forza Horizon 6 is the first Forza Horizon with cross-save across every platform it is on: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and Steam Deck, PC handhelds and PS5. Cross-play links the same platforms, and on PS5 all user-generated content is cross-platform from day one: EventLab races, Prefabs, Garages, Estates, Liveries and Tuning Setups. The details, and what Xbox Play Anywhere does and does not cover, are on Game Pass, Cross-Play and Cross-Save.
