Japan Map

Forza Horizon 6's map is an interpretive Japan of ten regions, from Tokyo City to the snowy Japanese Alps, which Playground calls its densest and most vertical map and bigger than Forza Horizon 5's Mexico. Playground has published no official area.

Forza Horizon 6's map is a compressed, interpretive Japan of ten regions, running from the neon streets of Tokyo City through farmland, forest and mountain passes to the snowy Japanese Alps. Playground Games calls it "our most dense and vertical map yet" and its Art Director says it is bigger than Forza Horizon 5's Mexico, but as of Nov 3, 2026 Playground has published no area in square miles or kilometers. It is revealed as you drive, under a fog of war that is new to the series, and a freeway loops around much of it. The ten regions are listed on Regions, and the city on Tokyo City.

How big is the Forza Horizon 6 map?

Playground has not given a number. In the interview published the day the game was revealed, Art Director Don Arceta called Japan "our biggest map yet" and "also our most full," and declined to put a figure on it: "I won't put a number on it. It is bigger." Playground's own Jan 22, 2026 announcement calls it "the largest map in a Horizon game yet", and the official FAQ repeats "Horizon's largest map yet." At launch, Playground's wording shifted to density: "Horizon's most dense map yet", with verticality and diverse biomes.

For scale, PC Gamer put Forza Horizon 5's Mexico at "a tad over 100 square kilometres" in its Sep 26, 2025 report, as its own rough estimate. Area figures for Forza Horizon 6 that circulate online (roughly 130 to 246 square kilometers) come from fan and affiliate sites, not from Playground, and are not repeated here as fact. The one size figure Playground does give is for the city: Tokyo City is five times the size of Forza Horizon 5's Guanajuato.

An interpretive Japan

Playground set out to capture the feel of Japan rather than its roads mile for mile, and the result is a patchwork. PC Gamer's review notes that "Hokkaido's flower gardens are south of Toyama's snow walls", and that Irabu Bridge, which is really in Okinawa, sits northeast of Tokyo. Places from all over the country, from Hirosaki Castle in the north to Nachi Falls in the south, share one drivable island; they are on Landmarks. Why the studio chose Japan at all is on Why Japan.

Fog of war and map discovery

Forza Horizon 6 is the first Horizon game with a fog of war: the map reveals itself as you travel, which Design Director Torben Ellert said tells you "where you have been and what you have seen." Revealing all of it earns "The Horizon Cartographer", and discovering all ten regions earns "Racking Up The Miles."

Progress is tracked in the Region Overview, which gained a "Roads Driven" percentage in Series 2 on Jun 15, 2026. Some players lost Road Discovery progress in the Series 4 update; a hotfix on Aug 24, 2026 restored it. Until Series 7 on Nov 2, 2026, the map's discovery percentage could stop short of 100% even after every region was found; that is now fixed. Road and region discovery also feed Collection Journal and Discover Japan.

The freeway loop and the roads

A freeway loops around a huge portion of the map, and it is the route of the Colossus, the longest Goliath race in the series, which loops the entire map once you reach Legend Island. Inside Tokyo City, roads are inspired by the C1 loop, Tokyo's inner expressway ring, with elevated, overlapping sections. Outside the city, the Full Map Reveal names the mountain passes of Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma; those and the other touge roads are on Mount Fuji and Touge Roads.

Biomes and terrain

IGN's review traces the terrain from Tokyo City through rolling hills, farmland, forest, villages and rural race circuits to highlands and the Japan Alps. Playground's Feb 14, 2026 post was titled "Explore 6 Unique Biomes in Forza Horizon 6!", but the six names were in its videos and could not be read from the post. Not every reviewer found the mix dramatic: PC Gamer called Japan "less varied and dramatic" than Mexico and closer to Forza Horizon 4's Britain. Each place changes with the weekly season, from cherry blossom to deep snow; see Seasons and Weather.

The regions

The map has 10 regions. Nine are named by their Treasure Cars, one per region: Minamino, Tokyo City, Ohtani, Ito, Shimanoyama, Nangan, Hokubu, Takashiro and Sotoyama. The tenth is very likely Legend Island, the endgame area, but no official page lists all ten together, so that is not certain as of Nov 3, 2026. What sits in each is on Regions.

The Full Map Reveal

Playground showed the whole map on Apr 8, 2026, the day hands-on previews went live, in a video and a full map image. The reveal showed the map in its summer configuration. The text names Tokyo City, the Japanese Alps, the C1-inspired roads, "Gingko Avenue" and the Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma passes, and gives no size figure. The map has not grown since launch as of Nov 3, 2026: series updates add temporary Evolving World features and permanent race routes, such as two in Tokyo City in Series 7. Expansion 1, due Jan 21, 2027, brings a new location whose name has not been announced.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the Forza Horizon 6 map? Playground Games has published no area for Forza Horizon 6's map as of Nov 3, 2026. It calls Japan the largest and densest map in a Horizon game, bigger than Forza Horizon 5's Mexico, and says Tokyo City alone is five times Forza Horizon 5's Guanajuato.

Is the Forza Horizon 6 map bigger than Forza Horizon 5? Yes, by Playground's word. Art Director Don Arceta said "It is bigger" in September 2025, and Playground's Jan 22, 2026 announcement calls Forza Horizon 6's Japan the largest map in a Horizon game, without a figure.

How many regions are in Forza Horizon 6? Forza Horizon 6 has 10 regions, by the achievement "Discover all 10 regions." Nine are Minamino, Tokyo City, Ohtani, Ito, Shimanoyama, Nangan, Hokubu, Takashiro and Sotoyama; the tenth is probably Legend Island.

Is Forza Horizon 6's map all of Japan? No. Forza Horizon 6 shows an interpretive, compressed Japan that mixes places from across the country on one map, so real landmarks sit far from their true positions.

How do you reveal the whole map in Forza Horizon 6? Drive everywhere: Forza Horizon 6 hides the map under a fog of war that clears as you travel. Revealing it all earns "The Horizon Cartographer," and a Series 7 fix on Nov 2, 2026 lets the discovery percentage reach 100%.

Is there a freeway around the Forza Horizon 6 map? Yes. A freeway loops around much of Forza Horizon 6's map, and the Colossus Goliath on Legend Island follows it around the entire map.
